1 pack of Old Glory Landshnechts Artillery crews (20 figures)
1 pack of Old Glory Heavy Guns (2 models)
1 pack of Glory Light Guns (2 models)
2 packs of Pro Gloria Miniatures Landsknechts (24 figures per pack)

I like the Old Glory Landsknechts figures they do have character, with lots of head variations on 5 different body poses and a lot of detail on the figures with minimum cleaning. I just hope I don't botch the painting on these figures.
The 2 figures below seems to be officers or standard bearers?
which remind me I need to get flags/banners!
Doppelsoldner (2-Handed Swordsmen) German version of "Norse Warriors Berserkers" these guys were usually deployed up front, leading the advance of their pike bloc's, and to my understanding, hack their way through enemy pike formations or even to break off the ends of enemy pikes.
Purchased two Advancing Regimental packs. each pack contains 20 pikes 4 command (1 Officer, 1 Standard, 1 Drummer and 1 escort with pole axe?) The Pro Gloria miniatures look and feel great, nice clean and very detail sculpts. The facial expressions on these figures remind of the German Artist Albrecht Dürer paintings and other Renaissance artists.
I had bad luck on two counts, in one pack I got to many of the same pose figures, in the 2nd pack I had one figure missing, I emailed Pro Gloria miniatures about the missing figure and the reply was I need to make out another order and the missing figure will be added plus 2 or 3 extra figures for free to cover my pain and suffering..hehehe...couldn't stop giggle after reading the reply email from Pro Gloria... they do have great banners/flags and I'm considering getting a couple of sheets.
Comparing the two 28mm Landsknechts Manufactures - Old Glory on the left and Pro Gloria on the right. No doubt about it, the two figures/Manufacturers mix in well together, the old glory figure on the left of photo head size may be at least 1mm or 2mm :o) splitting hairs here, bigger than the Pro Gloria on the right, and should not be noticeable on the table top if the two figure types are mixed together.
This a beginning of a very interesting project and one I will follow closely. Old Glory and Pro Gloria do look to be a solid match.

Thanks, I set up a time frame for myself Jonathan, to complete the project during the month of August! ;o) there will be follow up - work in progress postings.... lets see how tough I am or mad! :o) painting these 28mm figures.

That's a good chunk of painting to tackle in August. I bet you can do it!
Deletedon't know...feeling a little fatigue already after drilling holes for the wire pikes.... then I primed the pikemen.. phew! :o)
DeleteThanks Chris, I was surprised how the two manufacture figures/ranges fit nicely together as well.. once I finish painting up this lot, I will have to make a decision mix the two together or in their own segregated manufacturer (figures) units... thanks again for your support Chris!

ReplyDeleteI concur, studying the figures this morning, the two handed swordsmen can be converted to "energetic" :) standard bearers or the odd "charismatic" pikemen front of the unit. I agree also, large banners/flags are very important to be included within the pike bloc's, lets face it it really enhances the appearance of the pikes.
I totally agree, after some research, the Landsknechts wore more of earthly colors, shades of dark/light leather brown's, dark grays, dark green,blue's reds etc. Most wore, to my understanding, black/brown hats with white feathers. I'm also thinking of using more flamboyant colors for the officers/standard bearers/drummers... and as for the pike bloc's the painted figures once completed, will be representing their parent :o) 28mm manufacturing company...
Tomorrow I will be busy attached the wire pikes and priming the figures. assembling the artillery gun models together, sorting out the crews..converting some of swordsmen..etc..anyway..thanks for your hints and support Pete!

Old Glory Italian Wars are some of their best figures and Pro Gloria really are excellent so I'll be following this avidly. Good luck on painting that many Lansknechtes in that time period as I seriously doubt I could!

Yes indeed, Old Glory 28mm Italian Wars are great miniatures to collect and paint up the pike bloc/units/armies :o) Pro Gloria are good miniatures as well but very pricey + shipping from Europe to high!, not buying any more PG. Thanks for your support Christopher, only time, as they say, will tell me if I was successful completing this project or not. My fear is "burn out" I may end up so fatigued/exhausted after painting the miniatures I will take the rest of the year off and just sleep! :o)
